01Sign Up for the Balance Rewards Program
It's Walgreens store loyalty program, and you'll earn points every time you make a purchase. Every 1,000 points earned is worth $1 in rewards. You can also earn points for exercising and doing other things to stay on top of your health. Sign up online, or in store. There's even an app.
Points can be redeemed when you reach $1, $2, $3, $4 or $5, and there's a maximum redemption of $5 per transaction.
Tip: Add the Everyday Points perk to your card to earn 10 times the points on your purchases, plus points on prescriptions and vaccinations. With Everyday Points, you'll earn 10 points for every dollar that you spend on almost everything in store and online.
02Become a Beauty Enthusiast
Sign up for the Beauty Enthusiast program to earn $5 for every $50 that you spend on beauty products. Eligible purchases include, fragrances, cosmetics, skin care, hair care, oral care and grooming products. Just have the cashier swipe your Balance Rewards card each time you shop, and their system will automatically issue a reward every time you hit the threshold.
03Take Advantage of Register Rewards
Register Rewards are coupons that print at the register when you purchase certain products. They can be used like cash on your next purchase (but there are rules about how they can be used). Check the weekly sales ad to find out which products are eligible for rewards this week.
Important Things to Know About Register Rewards:
- Register Rewards (RRs) have expiration dates, so you don't want to hang on to them for too long
- If you want to buy multiples of an item that qualifies for RRs, you'll have to do multiple transactions – ringing everything up in one transaction will cause you to only get one reward
- If you buy a qualifying item in one transaction, and then buy the same item in a second transaction, using the RRs from the first transaction will cause you to forfeit your rewards from the second transaction (they simply won't print out)
- The number of coupons and RRs that you're using cannot exceed the number of items that you're purchasing. So, if you're buying five items, you can only use five coupons
Sound confusing? Once you give it a try, it won't be.
04Clips Coupons From the Weekly Ad
Check the weekly sales circular to see if there are any coupons you can use. If you don't get a Sunday paper, you can find them online, and add them directly to your rewards card.
05Become a Newsletter Subscriber
Sign up for the Walgreens e-newsletter to receive special coupons and promotional offers that you can't get anywhere else.
06Match Coupons to Sales
Buying on sale is good, but buying on sale with coupons is better. Use a coupon matching site like couponmom.com, and someone else will even do the legwork for you.
Combine store coupons with manufacturer coupons and Register Rewards to maximize your savings.
07Get Paperless Coupons
Before you head to the store, check to see if there are any coupons on the Walgreen's website that you can add to your Balance Rewards Card.
Tip: Walgreens also puts out a monthly coupon book with all sorts of coupons and rebate offers. Look for it at the front of the store, near the sales circulars.
08Look for Free After Rebate Offers
Walk up and down the aisles in search of products with "Try Me Free" peelies. Pay special attention to the hair care aisle, where shampoo and conditioner rebate offers abound.
09Buy Discounted Gift Cards
10Check the Clearance Endcaps
Endcaps are those shelves that "cap off" the ends of aisles. Some of them hold sales items, some of them are used to showcase new items, but the very best ones hold clearance merchandise. Take a lap around the outer perimeter of the store to figure out where your Walgreens puts its clearance goodies. Then, check back regularly.
11Sign Up for the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club
