Out of oregano? Need a quick substitute to save the day? Here are several things that will work in its place.
Your Best Bet: Use marjoram. It's related to oregano, and has a very similar taste. However, oregano has a stronger flavor, so use one and a half times as much marjoram for the best flavor approximation.
Still Good: Replace the oregano called for in the recipe with one and a half times as much thyme, basil or a blend of the two. Italian seasoning will also work, if you don't have any of these other herbs on hand.
