The Scripps Networks are back again with their HGTV Dream Home 2019. While some previous Dream Homes have been remodels, this year's Dream Home was built from scratch and designed by Brian Patrick Flynn. Flynn has designed big giveaway homes for Scripps, including the Dream Homes and Urban Oasis homes, since 2015.
Each year, HGTV tries to outdo itself and create an even more impressive home to give away. Discover some of the stunning features of this year's Dream Home, and a couple of places where the design missed the mark.
The HGTV Dream Home 2019's Most Stunning Features
The Dream Home 2019 is a two-story modern mountain retreat in Whitefish, Montana. Like all o the Dream Homes, this one was built with an eye on entertaining, indoor/outdoor living, and luxurious relaxation. Here are some of its best features:
Pro: The Dream Home 2019's Location
In 2019, the Dream Home returned to the mountains, choosing Whitefish, Montana for its location. The home is nestled in the wooded mountainside close to both Glacier National Park and Whitefish Mountain Resort.
This location will give its future residents the chance to have outdoor fun all year round. From fishing, swimming, and jet skiing in the nearby lakes and rivers in the summer to snowboarding, snowmobiling, and skiing on the slopes in winter, there's always something fun to do.
Pro: The Dream Home 2019's Entertaining Capabilities
What good is a gorgeous house if you can't share it with your friends and loved ones? So the 2019 Dream Home's designers built a home that is not only a great place to live but also a great place to entertain.
Some of the lovely features that the Dream Home 2019 offers to its hosts include a full chef's kitchen with a pass-through window from the kitchen to the patio. If you're planning on throwing a summer get-together on the deck, you can pass the sides over from the kitchen while cooking the main course on the built-in stone fireplace or the built-in grill.
If you prefer indoor entertaining like a movie night, an après-ski gathering, or a board game party, there are options for that as well. There's a lodge-style bonus room above the garage where people can get together and relax
There's plenty of room for your guests to spend the night as well. There are two spacious guest bedrooms on the upper floor of the Dream Home 2019 as well as extra bunk beds on the upper landing.
Pro: The HGTV Dream Home 2019 Perfects Indoor/Outdoor Living
If your home is surrounded by natural beauty, you don't want to keep yourself walled off from it. The HGTV Dream Home 2019 takes advantage of its majestic surroundings by blurring the lines between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
A good example is the Great Room, which features two story high ceilings and soaring windows that look out over the mountains.
The master bedroom also has a private balcony and expansive windows to enjoy the view. Even from the bathtub of the master bathroom, you can look over the area around you.
And of course, there's a great outdoor living area with a huge porch and deck with built-in stone seating, a stone fireplace, and a built-in grill to encourage you to spend more time in the fresh air.
Pro: The HGTV Dream Home 2019's Luxurious Special Touches
The HGTV Dream Home 2019 was designed to be a luxurious retreat for the owners and their guests, and it is full of pampering special features.
For example, the master bedroom has doors that lead out to the deck, where a decadent raised cedar whirlpool tub awais. Imagine sinking into the warm water after a long day, and gazing over the lake as the worries of your day recede.
Winters can get cold in Montana, but the HGTV Dream Home 2019 winners will be able to cozy up in front of the fireplace in their great room as the snow comes down.
The Dream Home has special features for book lovers as well. One of the guest bedrooms has built-in bookshelves framing the bed. Another has a hammock chair to encourage guests to curl up with a good book.
And if you love to cook, the kitchen is going to be a dream come true. There are professional-level appliances, double ovens, a broad island for food prep or dining, and plenty of storage space.
And speaking of storage space, the master bedroom suite includes an absolutely enormous walk-in closet. There is plenty of room to store your clothing and fashion accessories. The closet is custom-designed to provide maximum storage and organization, and it also includes floor-to-ceiling windows to give you lovely views.
One final special touch for pet lovers: underneath the stairs, the designers have put in a special pet nook, stocked with feeders, pet food, and a cozy place for your four-footed family members to hang out.
The HGTV Dream Home 2019's Not-So-Great Features
There's a whole lot to love about the 2019 Dream Home, but there are a couple of places where the home falls short. Here are some of the things you might not love.
Con: Color. Lots and Lots and LOTS of Color
When you are selling a house, most experts tell you to use neutral colors, since you don't know what the new owners are going to like. The HGTV Dream Home 2019 seems to take this advice in some of its rooms, and totally discard it in others.
For example, the kitchen and the guest bedroom use neutral grey and white tones, while the three bedrooms use red, black, and "spice cider" for their walls. These are very strong colors that don't necessarily complement one another.
If you win the HGTV Dream Home 2019, you're either going to need to love color or to do a lot of painting.
Con: The Outdoor Living Area Is Great... But the Outdoor Play Area?
If you're a parent, you might find that space for your kids to play outdoors is a little limited. The back yard slopes sharply, which means that parents of young children may need to build a fence.
There's enough yard that you could probably put up a swing set, but if you're hoping to play frisbee, throw a ball around, or install a pool, you might find your spaced a little cramped.
Pet owners may also be disappointed that their furry friends have an adorable nook inside, but no fenced yard outside.
Con: Hopefully, the Winner Really Likes Cows
The HGTV Dream Home 2019 design team took inspiration from Montana's setting... which means that hopefully, the winner will enjoy a Western flair. Inside, you'll find cow skull paintings, design accents made from cowboy hats, and even a fake moose head made of fabric and mounted above the fireplace.
The HGTV Dream Home 2019 is a stunning home that fits the illustrious designs that HGTV has pulled off since the Dream Home's inception in 1997. Whoever ends up owning it is sure to love living in it, even if they might make a few design changes.
Remember that if you are a US resident who is at least 18 years old, you can enter to be the lucky person to win the 2019 HGTV Dream Home, along with $250,000 cash and a vehicle, through February 18, 2019.
